Day of Advent
17

“In many chapels, reddened by the setting sun, the saints rest silently, waiting for someone to love them.”
These words, penned by an unknown priest, long dead, were the inspiration for Susan Peek's series on the lives of saints who have fallen deep into the shadows of obscurity. Her hope is that, in reading their heroic stories, you will make the acquaintance of some of GOD'S FORGOTTEN FRIENDS. Get to know Saint Cloud, Saint Dymphna, Saint Magnus, Saint Camillus, and the saintly Baldwin IV.
Have you read any of Susan Peek's saint stories? Let's see what you can remember! Enjoy the quiz on this day of Advent.
Author's Christmas Fun Fact
Although I’m an American, I lived for 21 years in the country of New Zealand. Since it is in the Southern Hemisphere, where the seasons are opposite, December falls in the summer. Living there made me think every year about what that first Christmas in Bethlehem must have been like. Was there peaceful snow falling silently outside the stable? Probably not. Was the town decked out with festive lights for Our Lord’s birth? No. Did Mary and Joseph sip steaming hot chocolate and gaze at decorations by a cozy fireside? Of course not! Having Christmas in summer taught me to look at things differently, and for that, I am grateful.
